This is why I (re)installed a starter button - the contacts of the ignition switch were pretty badly burnt and the switch would stick in the start position.

As found, the wire to the starter relay was just folded over, soldered and then stuffed into the connector on the back of the igntion switch - the was no bullet terminal.

Fortunately, the wires to the starter button weren't cut off, just stuffed under the tank.
