Moto Guzzi Eldorado Engine
I'm currently rebuilding and upgrading this '73 Eldorado engine. It's not in too bad of condition other than abnormal wear of the oil pump, lifters, rockers and the usual chrome flaking from the cylinder bores. Finding a rag wrapped around the oil pickup screen is never a good omen though... ![]() Note the pile of sludge to the right of the crankshaft - this came out of the sludge trap and is pretty typical of poorly maintained and/or high mileage engines. This is one reason we'll be modifying this engine's oil system to utilize the sump from a later model engine with oil filter. The main bearing journals are fine but the the rod journal will need to be turned first undersized. ![]() Reassembly begins ![]() Bare case back from the machine shop. New oil passages drilled (two outer holes) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() No compression (stuck valves), so a top-end rebuild is needed. |
