Removed the battery tray to correct some wiring issues. Good thing I did as the shift arm on the transmission was ready to fall off.
Back into place and secured.
The lower shift linkage clevis was very worn, so I drilled the pivot pin hole out and installed an oversized pin.
Wiring and shift linkage issues resolve, the battery tray was reinstalled. The starter relay was attached to the unused tab of the regulator and wired up. Made a mat for the battery out of thin rubber as well.
Carburetors reinstalled after a quick inspection.
Cleaned and lubricated the cable splitter and all cables.
The left choke cable was frayed and failing - replaced with a new-old-stock cable.
The right choke plunger spring (top) was apparently replaced with an incorrect one. A good used correct spring (bottom) was installed. With the incorrect spring, the
Cables, fuel hoses, breather box and air filter box reinstalled.
More good used rubber boots to replaced the rotted ones on the wires to the coil.
Tightened up the bar-end signals after replacing the wiring to them.
The original wiring was unsheathed and got pinched between the instrument panel and top plate resulting in a short. The new wiring was sheathed and routed through an unused hole in the top plate.
The contacts of the turn signal switch were corroded, so it was disassembled for cleaning. The wiring to the flasher unit (inside the headlight) was replaced as well.
The horn was getting power but still wouldn't work. Disassembly revealed that the contacts inside the horn needed to be cleaned. Works great now. Not many bikes have a horn that can be diassembled and repaired!
Corrected the position of the front brake arms and adjusted the linkage. The cheap, stretchy cable that was on there wouldn't fit then, so I installed a good used Barnett cable. Much firmer feeling and the brake light works too now!
